1/28/08 Emails

The Mommy-I am sorry that you are not feeling well, Elder Nash was sick last Monday and that was no fun. Yeah President Hinckley just seemed to go out. I had not heard anything either about failing health or anything either. Well he is now resting and with his wife so that is good for him. Hmmm. I might just see if I can contact WaMu and see what the problem is. Hopefully I can get it figured out. Wow Stake people that sounds like loads of fun. I bet it was pretty intense and nerve racking. Well things have been pretty stormy here and I have been pretty wet and cold, but I get dry and get warm so that is good. The work has slowed down a little with the weather, but it has been good at the same time because we have done a lot of service for others. We still go and dig people out and it is a good excersize for me since I am getting a little on the "Round" side. The truck does help a lot in keeping us on the road and going. We have only had a couple close calls so that is good. Well thats about it for now. Take care and hope things are going well for you there. Love you.-Elder Brickey
Oh yeah I almost forgot. I am not sure where they are but I am in need of one of my Journals, I have almost filled this one up. Thanks love you.

Curleys-Wow it sounds like you have been having loads of fun with those kids of yours. I am glad to hear that people are healthy though that is always good. Things out here are good, we have been getting a lot of snow and rain which has been LOADS of fun. Transfers are on February 3rd so only a week left, crazy stuff. I have almost been out for two complete transfers. Dad and Scott those punks going and playing all the time. But I definiatly do not envy the work load that they have. That is sad that Shadow is having problems, she is not that old but she has done a lot of dumb things to herself when she was younger. Hopefully it is nothing big or expensive. If something happens to her I wonder how Grizz will do. Well thanks for the emails they are always nice to get. I hope things are still going well for you and take care of yourselves and your chillins. Love you.-Elder Brickey

emails 1-22-08

The Mommy-Last Monday we helped some people in the ward move and we got there at 10 am and did not get back to our apartment till 5pm and the library closes at 4 on Mondays, and opens at 1. The cake was pre-made and it came with dryice, which Elder Nash had fun with, to keep it cold. It was a Vanilla with some kind of berry jelly in the center. It was really good. I will probably wait a little bit before cooking the cake you sent, one because I am caked out right now and two I have to get a pan. Her cake was through some call in thing it was cool. Yeah the baptism was awesome. They had some family friends from Idaho and they baptized them and confirmed them. It was really special because they are like family and the guy who did it gave them beautiful blessings when they were confirmed. Wow Grandma and Grandpa met L. Tom Perry that is awesome. I hear that President Perry and him are a lot a like and President likes to joke around and is such an awesome Mission President. Wow you are sick too. My companion and almost all the Elders in my Zone are sick, but so far I am holding strong so that is nice. I guess I got dad's immunity to sicknesses, thank goodness. Well I hope that you all get feeling better and that things are going well for you. Things are going really well for us out here, other than the sicknesses. Well I will write again soon. Take care Love you.-Elder Brickey

Hello Family Curley-Yeah it was awesome to have the baptism and than to have the other two commit to baptism. I dont know if I answered moms question so let her know that they are waiting till March becaue it is one of their Birthday and it seemed to just be right. So we are just going to let them go with that. The weather has been sunny, a little cold but sunny. It is still no where near the fridged Utah cold though. I am sorry to hear that everyone is getting sick that sucks. Everyone in my Zone seems to be getting sick, but I am still holding strong, knock on wood. That is awesome that things are going well for Ryan with school and being able to still do stuff with the Family. Saedy is turning one, wow that is a weird thought. I am fine with them staying little they cant grow to fast on me. I did not know anything happen to Shadow, maybe dad wrote something in his Email. I am glad that she is doing better though. It is weird to think that they are almost 8-9 years old (?). Yeah I hear that those terrible twos are no fun. I did hear something though that could be interesting for you. It is a night time diaper. You put on a cloth diaper and then a dispossable diaper. I guess it keeps them drier so they sleep through the night or something like that. Yeah Elder Nash and I were going through our geneology the other day and it was fun to read the different stories it was cool. I know Shan is a speed deamon on that PAF stuff it is crazy. Wow a Fugal messing with Shawn that is not smart, Shawn will beat the crap out of you if you piss him off. Sounds like all kinds of fun for Nielsen Heating and I am not sorry to say I am glad that I dont have to deal with it. I would have liked to see it though or here Shawn's comments. California is crazy awesome, it is nothing like what you think, well in the North. I am inland and it is a lot like Salt Lake County and Utah County, oh and St. George. There are a lot of hippies but they dont like cold so they left, and the druggies are pretty thick. I bet that is more of a Southern thing though. I would not live here, it is beautiful and I like it, but it is WAY to expensive for my tastes. A house like mom and dads is going for $530,000 and that is "Cheap", yeah right. But it is awesome here deffiniatly somewhere to visit. I am glad to hear that the missionary work is picking up there it is so awesome to be apart of. Well I hope that you can help the guy before he leaves. Well take care of yourselves and stay out of trouble.Love you.-Elder Brickey

Emails from 1/15/08 and a letter

The Mommy-Thank you for the gifts I did recieve them on the 8th so that was nice. The day was kinda boring, I was in Zone Conference from 10 to 4 so that was fun. I did get sung to though. My shoes are doing okay, I have a few scuffs here and there but lasting. I did get my jacket fixed. A lady in the ward use to be head of the alterations for Men's Warehouse, so she did an amazing fix for me. Yeah there are a lot of interesting people up here and some pretty cool things. The history I guess you could say is quite diverse. Elder Nash had a pretty good bday. We actually baptized Jim and Wanda Linsley on his birthday so that was an awesome present. Another cool thing is that we both got birthday cakes, mine from Brie his from his family, and they are the SAME cake, so I guess great minds think alike. Well things are warming up a bit and there is not as much snow on the road, but there is still a lot of snow on the ground. People keep calling us asking if we can shovel things for them, we wish they would not have waited till it had melted and than froze and became hard, but hey it builds good muscles. Well the work is going great, I am getting into the swing of things which is good. We actually have two other people who are committed to baptism on March 1st so that is cool. Well that is about it for now. Take care. Love you.-Elder Brickey

Curley Family-Hey there. Things are going great out here. I was actually in Anderson, South of Redding so about 70 miles away, for my Birthday for Zone Conference. 10 am to 4 pm what a day! I did however get sung to and I did get to say the opening prayer as well. The Bishop and his family fed us that night for my birthday dinner which was awesome cause they made some good food for us. I wish that we had Scott's sleds that would be way awesome and probably make it so we would not do any work. Well I am glad to hear the family is doing well, except for the sickness anyways. I can only imagine how big they both will be when I see them next. Dad sent me an email and it sounded like quite the trip to wyoming, but I did not hear the Bruce almost wrecked the truck, that would have been kinda funny. Good heavens Zack sounds like he is getting into nothing but trouble. I wonder what is going to happen to him kinda, but he has made is own bed I guess. I hope that Grandpa can get whatever figured out so that he does not get the shaft on things, that would suck. Mom and dad are getting along and now sitting on the same couch, wow I am missing a lot of good stuff. It is okay hopefully when I get home they will maybe be holding hands or something like that. I am sending a package to Scott and in it will be a cd with a lot of pictures on it. We did have a baptism actually and we are going to be having another one, hopefully, on March 1st. That would make 4 people while I am here. Other than that I have just been working my tail off trying to make sure that I am doing what the Lord wants me to so I can help those around me. Well I hope things are still going well for you all. Take care of yourselves and stay outta trouble.-Elder Brickey

Brickey Family-
Hello there family. I just thought I would write a little note to you all. Well I thank you all for the gifts. I am not quite sure who all sent me one so I will just give a broad thank you to you all. I just have one thing to say to you all too. You tease me about being "old" but remember you are all older than me ;p
On a different note. Things are going great out here. On January 12th at 1pm Jim & Wanda Linsley are getting baptized, & two other investigators, their names are Meg & Alison, commited to baptism on March 1st, so things are progressing nicely. It is cool the 12th is Elder Nash's birthday, & if I remember right March 1st is Steve's birthday, so that is pretty cool.
It is crazy to think that I am almost through my second transfer. Elder Nash thinks he will leave & I will stay. But you never know what will happen. Then end of the transfer is Feb 5, so it is still a ways off.
Well I am eventually going to send a box home, when I get to it I don't know. It will have stuff that I don't need right now, or never going to need on the mission.
Well, uh, thats about all I can think of right now. Thanks again & keep me posted on how things are going. Love you all.
-Elder Brickey

email from 1-7-08

The Mommy-Happy New Year back to you. Of course I did not stay up, I need the beauty sleep. I was asleep by about 11 maybe sooner. We actually got dumped on the last five days. We got about three and a half feet of snow and Mount Shasta Ski Resort had only 26 inches before the storm and now has 116 inches or more so it was a good little storm. We shoveled SO much snow it was crazy how much, but hey it makes me stronger I guess. Sweet more presents! It feels weird I will be 20 in 2 days, crazy crazy. I bet that makes you feel old :-). Just teasing, you don't look a day over 21. Maybe today I will get the package, who knows the mail here has been so slow with the weather it is crazy. The last few days the mail has not gotten to our place till about 6 or 7, usually it is there about 3-4. Elder Nash's birthday is on the 12th, and we both don't feel any different. It feels weird to be away on a birthday, no family is weird. I will tell him Happy Birthday for you. I check my bank statement every pday online it is easier than getting statements in the mail. Well things have been going pretty well here. We actually saved a guys life, sort of. He cannot walk very well and he was not answering his phone so we stopped by and he was out trying to plow his driveway. He got his 4x4 blazer stuck, and was trying to make it back to his house, which is about 100 yards. We made a trail for him, and got him inside to rest. We got his truck unstuck, which was fun. It is a good thing that I payed attention to dad and you and Scott on how to drive. Elder Nash could not figure out how to get it unstuck and the other day this guy also got his other truck stuck, and Elder Nash does not know how to drive a manual very well so I got to do it. So we have been having all kinds of fun with the weather. Well I will send some pictures as soon as I can. Take care. Love you.-Elder Brickey

Curley Family-Hello there! I am glad to hear that the kids are doing well, and growing up way to quick for me. Than again I will be 20 in two days so yeah. It sounds like you have your hands full between the two, so you feeling like you are going to have more? Maybe later. Well I hope that the semester goes well for you Ryan and that it does not cause to much stress and grief. I am glad to hear that you are both staying busy. It makes time go by better, and faster. The week has been pretty crazy. We have gotten about 3 feet of snow at our apartment and it ranges up to 6 or more feet in other places. We are in a truck actually. It is a 2008 Chevy Colorado. It is 4x4 which has been really nice with the weather being snowy. I felt like I was getting fat, but the Lord provided A LOT of excersize with shoveling A LOT of snow for people. My Birthday, crazy I don't feel like it should be, but I don't know what day it feels like anymore. Yeah it has been nice though with the snow in some ways, I have not been in a tie or slacks that often. The down side though, I have not been dry since last week, so I don't know which I like more. Mount Shasta is amazing, and there are some "SPECIAL" people who live here. The Buddist's are nice, not very talkative but nice. The monistery is crazy big and cool looking, I want to go on a tour and see it more. The hippies are fun, they are Manchurians (not sure on spelling) they believe the mountain has healing powers, and so do crystals. They are fun a little crazy but fun. Most of them migrate out though with the cold, since they usually live up on the mountain somewhere. We have some other interesting religions and strange people, but it is fun to listen to their beliefs and realize how much better off we are then they are. Anyway. I hope that all is going well for you all. Take care of yourselves. Love you.-Elder Brickey
