emails 11-26-07

We just received a letter today-which is below all this, and now here are the emails.

Hey Familia Curley-I am in the Library, where else would I be? No I am actually in Mount Shasta, and it is BEAUTIFUL! The mountain is just outside our appartment, oh yeah my companion is Elder Nash. The members and people out here are really nice for the most part. There are those select few that are jerks, but hey their loss. For Thanksgiving we went and played in the Turkey Bowl and our team won, which was fun. It is actually in the mid 40s all day, in the mornings around 9 ish it is usually around 35, so a bit cold. All we are waiting for is a weather front to move in for the snow! I keep mom and dad, and you all, in my prayers. The one thing that I had the hardest time getting over was thinking that mom and dad would get a divorce while I was out here. I now know that the Lord will help me with me weakness in this and that mom and dad will hopefully be okay, so your story about them was appreciated. I really wish that I could see the kids. I look at the picture of Dallin and Saedy, and both of you everyday. I miss you all but I know that the Lord is doing great and marvelous things for me and for the family while I am in his service. Well I hope you all are okay. Take care and give the kids a squeeze. Love ya tons-Elder Brickey

The Mommy-I did get your letter, sorry it took me till Thanksgiving though to write you all back. The pictures that you recieved are actually ones that Sister Perry took so I am not sure but I do believe that it is Elder Carter, if he is tall dark hair and glasses anyways, and we are at the Sacramento Airport. Well my bike is amazing, I will try to get a picture to send to you. I have been having a hard time with my memory card and getting a kyosk to read it or a computer to sync it too. I will find a way though. Well we mainly eat at a members house, pretty well every night actually, so I do not have to cook much. I would like a few recipes though if you wouldn't mind, like smores and other good ones. I actually did not eat that much this Thanksgiving, I will admit that I was a little homesick, but I will survive hopefully. My companion is Elder Nash, and I am in a Library! No I am actually somewhere really cool, I am in Mount Shasta! My letter will tell the story, it's kinda funny. I am glad to hear that Grandma and Grandpa finally had their "Farewell" it was really hard for me to leave them on Tuesday, especially with Grandpa tearing up. I bet that it does feel weird with me gone, I sometimes find myself wanting to talk with one of you or just see one of you, but I know that I am where I should be and that it is a good thing for me to be out here. I hope all is going well for you, take care. Love ya-Elder Brickey

Family-(mom)
I am in California! It is weird to think that I have been gone almost a month. I have decided that I need some family photos for myself. I have the one of Shan & Ry & the kids but I need the whole family! Anyways....
My flight Tuesday was short, but beautiful. Tell Scott that Taho is gorgeous from the sky. We got in at 9am, California time. President Perry, Sister Perry, & the Zone leaders were there to greet us. we drove about a half hour to the Stake Center in Roseville. Met with President Perry one on one, talked to the Medical people & watched a movie while filling out papers, the movie was about driving so no worries. We than headed to the mission office where we got our licenses photo copied & met some other missionaries from the mission. We than headed over to the Mission home, wow gorgeous, for lunch. We ate, took a nap, & than some pictures before heading to Yuba City where we would meet our trainers. About an hour & a half later later we were in Yuba City. We all met together had a brief little message form President Perry than they handed out the assignments. They handed out a piece of paper to the trainers & on the piece of paper had somethings about the trainee. There usually is not someone from the Mount Shasta zone because its another 3 1/2 hours away from Yuba, but this time there was, & of the 14 elders I got to go to Mount Shasta! My trainer is Elder Nash, he is from Sandy, Utah. After we took some pictures we went out & got my stuff, including my bike!, & loaded up. We rode to Redding with two other Elders who were in the Redding zone. We drove for about 2 1/2 hours than reached the Stake Center in Redding. We hauled my bike into the library so it would be safe, because the next ride we got was in a little Honda CRX (2 door little guy). We than drove about an hour to Mount Shasta. We finally got to our apartment at about 10pm. I unpacked & made my bed & finally hit the hay at 11pm. What a day!
Wednesday morning Elder Nash & I had to drive back down to Redding to a zone meeting, & we picked up my bike. It was cool the other elders were so excited that they all put my bike together for me. It was fun, except my one tire was flat. We went & bought some food & then made the hour drive back to Mount Shasta. Every night someone in the ward feeds us, it's awesome good food. We have a few investigators who are just praying for a baptismal date & we keep picking up new investigators. It is awesome to see the Lord work on these people. The weather here is pretty cold at 9 am it's about 34 F. Mount Shasta has a ton of snow on it, but it's over 14,000 ft tall.
I am not sure what to get Scott. It feels like forever since I have seen him. Maybe Season 2 of Prison Break, the TV show, or see if you can find him a life?!? No just kidding. I have a shirt for him, but yeah the 2nd season of Prison Break unless he has it, than I guess a hat, a fitted hat from Blind, CWB, Kawasaki,, something good. If you have a hard time I might be able to find something out here.
I got the addresses, maybe the Apgoods nah I will write them if they write me. I have a few people to write too now it's fun to get mail from you all! It's hard to be away from you all on Turkey day. the first time in 19 years, wow! I hope you had a good one. My temple recommend was fixed thanks. I was only able to go to the Temple twice, but it was okay, the Provo Temple. I might get a chance to go to the Medford, Oregon Temple & the Sacramento Temple. Good job in Volleyball, today we played in the Turkey bowl & beat all the old Married men, which is hard when they are calling the rules & such, but we won! On Today we had an all day Pday & Monday was only a 1/2 Pday so I couldn't get this finished in time. I am happy that Zowee sold, & it's funny dad use to make fun of her, but HA, he likes her! Anyways....
Shan, thanks for calling my crazy, no it's all good cause I kinda am. Most of the time though I am just quiet, it's hard to talk to some people It has been hard to think that little Saedy will be so grown up when I get home, but at least Dallin knows who I am, sort of. Thank you & Ryan for what you do I really appreciate it. Love you all tons!

Dad-
Well by the time you read this I will have been out for a month, & I don't miss any of you! No, I miss you like mad, especially when I need some help. You were there for me & I truely appreciate that. I am glad to hear that Grandpa is doing well. I am keeping him in my prayers, I also keep you & the family in them. I hope that you are doing well. Thank you for fixing Zowee & selling her. It is kinda sad to think that I will never see her again, but that is for the best. tell Craig congrats for the 'spike' & that I want some jerky! California is beautiful, I am going to get some pictures developed everntually. I hope that Denver is good, & stay out of trouble! I cannot believe that Ryan is engaged, but than agian it doesn't surprise me. Has he taken care of his fines so he can do the temple thing? And tell him to behave himself because the advisary will work hard to screw that up. Tell Ben 'Hi' back for me & that I hope that all is going well for him. Well Dad I just wanted you to know that I really apprecaite you & all you did for me, & do for me. An I love you! Your son-

Email and Letter 11-19-07

This looks like it could be a form letter, that we assume he filled out at an interview with the mission president after his arrival in CA.

The Letter:

We've Arrived
Dear:
We made it to California! The great Roseville Mission. Just a short note to let you know how I am doing.
He writes:
Hey family I made it to the beautiful state of California. The weather is extremely warm, compared to Utah anyway. President Perry and Sister Perry met us at the airport and they are both amazing. Our flight was short, & we sadly lost only one piece of luggage. Elder Carter, one of my MTC companions, lost one of his bags. Other than that it has been amazingly well. It is super flat out here, but I think I will get used to it eventually. It was a beautiful flight, tell Scott that Tahoe is beautiful from the sky! I love you all and I hope that things are going well. Write you soon.
Elder Brickey

Now the email:
The Mommy-I did go and say "bye" to Grandma and Grandpa and it was just as hard as when I said goodbye to all of you in October. But I know that I am going somewhere that the Lord needs me so it's all good I guess. I don't think that I left anything at the MTC, but I will find out eventually if I did. I got my bike and we had Zone meeting and all the other Elders in my Zone put it together they were pretty excited to do it too. It looks pretty! Anyways I hope all is going well for you. My preparation day is monday, but this week I get an all day Pday on Thursday, YEAH! Well I will write you again soon. Love you, love-Elder Brickey

Here are a couple of pictures that were sent. The first one is of Sister Perry, President Perry and Elder Brickey. The second one is of Elder Carter and Elder Brickey.

Tuesday

Tuesday morning, mom and dad got a phone call. On the line was ELDER BRICKEY!! He was told that he could call them while he waited to board the plane. Mom was so shocked that she was not sure what to say. Dad almost did not answer his phone, but was very glad that he did.
Too bad we were still sleeping when he called. But it was good that mom and dad got to talk with him. They said he sounded good, and he was excited to get to California. There were 16 missionaries going to the Roseville Mission yesterday. We hope he made it safely and got settled in. We are excited to hear from him soon.

Nov 7, 2007 Letter

Family-
Hey hey I have been gone for two weeks! you miss me yet? It has been a good two weeks though & it's crazy to think that next week I will be in California. We leave the MTC Tuesday at 5am and our flight leaves SLC at 8:40am than we will arrive in Sacramento at 9:30 am so 50 min flight I guess.
Mom, yeah grandpa was pretty funny. He found me in the lunch room & gave me the CD & than on Halloween he came up to my room & dropped off some candy. All the Elders in my district call him "Grandpa" instead of "Elder Walker" it is pretty funny. I already ask grandpa but just in case I would like a copy of my Priesthood line of Authority if I could get it. My schedule is kinda crazy. We wake up every morning at 6:15 get dressed & go to class that starts at 7. It's harder than you think to make it on time with shaving and all that good stuff. We usually have personal study from 7 -815, than breakfast from 815 to 845. Than its back to the classroom for campanion study from 845 to about 945. Than one of our two teachers is there from 945 to about 1, than its lunch from 1 to 145. than we have more study time, maybe a large group meeting or another class till about 6 than its dinner till 645. Than depending on the day we either have more classroom instruction, study time, or a devotional. Than from 9 to 930 we plan for the next day activities such as what we are going to study and such than head back to the residence to sleep.
The stairs are such a work out. On average I walk them up and down 3-8 times a day. Wednesday is usually more cause its Preperation Day (the day I get to write). Last Tuesday we had Elder Bednar & his wife speak which was AMAZING! this week we had Bishop Edgley from the Presiding Bishopric & his wife & that was awesome too. You need to take it easy though, trying to cut off your finger, goodness gracious! Thank you for taking care of my Temple recommend problem. I would have been more detailed but I didn't have much time to write. Thank you for the cookies they were good & I shared with our trick-o-treaters they like them too. my handwriting changes I am sorry, but I alsmo made Dad's section bigger so he could read it. He doesn't like my small hand writing. Elder is now my companion until we get to the field, mine & Elder Mitchell's. It has been cool having two we work really well together. Well that is awesome that you sold Zowee, sad but good....How much did you get out of her? Sorry I missed saying Happy Birthday to Dallin in my last letter, give him a hug & a kiss for me.

Ryan-
The MTC has been good, crazy but good. Just as I get use to everything I am getting shipped off. I have actually really enjoyed myself here it has been good. I am pretty stoked to go on a ried on my bike though I will admit that. I have been doing my wall push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, playing basketball & playing four square to stay excersing. So I feel pretty good still. I am glad you got to drive Zowee before she sold, its such a fun car, but its good to be gone & not have to deal with that anymore. Am I ready? I can only hope that I am. With God at my side Yes I am ready to conquer the world. I am pretty excited to fly again I will admit & than California here I am. Sounds like thinkgs are a bit crazy at home, well with Zack nayway. Well I hope the best for you good luck with school.

I love you all very much!
-Elder Brickey

PS You will probably have to address your next letter to the mission home!!!

Familia Brickey

It's been a great first week. Yeah I heard from almost everyone that I spoke very well English, but being with Granpa was awesome. People here that I know....well there is Elder Shaw, Elder Judd, Elder Apple, Elder Stone, & a few others that I cannot remember. I know them all from school so its mainly aquaintences. My roommates are Elder Mitchell my companion who is going to Roseville with me, he is Meza Az than there is is Elder Carter, well everyone in the room is going to Roseville, & he is from Layton. Yes, he is hte one that knows Chad & Cami so its pretty cool. Then Elder Glenfield who is from Canada, Welland Ontario. Sadly Elder Glenfield was sent home & in just six days all the ten Elders in our district had become so close that we all were teary eyed. I would say that I am thinking of home but I am just to buys to think about anything home. I am only allowed to write on Preperation Day, which is Wednesday here, so once a week from me, you will be gettin g a letter. Sorry about my room it was a little scary. Oh yeah I forgot my razor but since I needed one I bought my exact one here, but I might want the blades, nah never mind I will be good. I don't think I could get lost here it feels like I have been here for months with the amount of knowledge that I have learned. Goodies are suprisingly low, but hey I am popular. We actually are going to the Temple in just over an hour, so 3pm. Yeah, so church feels quite a lot like the singles ward but no hug from the sisters that you know. Speaking of hugs I almost got Grandma in trouble for walking in the office & giving her a hug but we explained that we are close, so thats all good. Well I hope the car goes, it would be really nice. Scott knows the generals of what it has & what its worth. The stock air intake is in the top of Dad's big shed if they want it. I said my last good byes & I don't think that she would appreciate a hut, sorry that was about Zowee & completely out of order, she already had to say good bye once, another time might break her little heart. Anyway....Thanks for the CD one of my district companions has a CD player & its a nice change of music from what we have. Grandpa came & found me in the lunchroom & hand delivered it so its been nice. Hey Scott, or Scooter, your welcome for the stuff but sorry you don't have time, how is work & life treating ya? Well take car of my stuff love ya bro. Shan I hope I answered all your questions & I thank you for your kindness & taking the cd & changing it for me. Mom thank you for being there I know at times I am quite the pain in the butt & I appreciate all that you have done for me. Dad, I love you and I wish I could have been there with you for your wild adventures. When I feel like I am down & like I cannot do this your words in this last letter & on the tape raise my spirit & I really appreciate all that you do for me. I am glad grandpa is doing better I keep him in my prayers along with the rest of the family. I love you all.
